Roundtable Structure

On Day Two of the Earth Dialogues Forum, eight sectoral roundtables met simultaneously to address the following four themes:

• The ethical challenges in promoting sustainable development
  
• The role of ethical norms in promoting sustainable development
  
• Policy recommendations for action and implementation
  
• Political strategies for Johannesburg and beyond
  
  

Each roundtable consisted of approximately twelve speakers from the following sectors:

1. Roundtable n°1 - International Economic Institutions
2. Roundtable n°2 - Business and Industry
3. Roundtable n°3 - Media and Communication
4. Roundtable n°4 - Parliamentarians and Government Representatives
5. Roundtable n°5 - International Institutions and Organisations
6. Roundtable n°6 - Inter-Religious Groups and Spiritual Leaders
7. Roundtable n°7 - Non-Governmental Organisations
   

Each roundtable consisted of fourteen speakers, half of whom were from the sector in question and the other half from the six other sectors as well as NGOs, Trade Unions and Academics. The representatives of the sector in question were challenged by the other members of the roundtable in order to ensure that the opinions and views of all members of Civil Society were taken as much as possible into account in the discussions. Earth Dialogues audience members and participants had the opportunity to exchange their views and to raise questions with the speakers.

In addition, a special session of the World Council of Former Foreign Ministers addressed the themes of the Earth Dialogues with a particular focus on global political and security issues.
